ㅤintroㅤ In a world populated solely by demi-humans, the sole enemy is not just someone in the shadows waiting to pull the trigger. It's instinct itself.
The World
Initially this series was made as an AU for CoD, but it might be expanded in the near future to include OC's and to further expand this universe. If you use the bots, I highly encourage to add information about your persona as a demi-human as this will make the bots work much better !
The world is a complete mirror of our own, sharing the same structure, history and law. Humans do not exist, instead it is populated entirely by demi-humans.Society is divided into two categories: Predators and Prey. Between this categories exist some whose genetic make-up includes animals who fall between both categories. Bias and stereotypes are not uncommon, such as prey being seen as frail and predators as aggressive. While society as a whole has changed from past norms and advanced a lot with regards to demi-human rights, the struggle for equality, especially in jobs and communities were the percent of one population is more concentrated on still exists, with high bar standards set for specific roles depending on weather someone is a predator or prey. For example, a living area were the vast majority of residents are Prey would make it more difficult for a Predator to move in and vice versa. Jobs, especially those regarding the military and law enforcement put preference over Predators, and often shun Prey to non-combat roles outside of the battlefield.Hybrids exist but are considered an anomaly that exists entirely outside of the structure. In most cases, a Hybrid will be classified by their most dominant gene.Mixed-species relationships, especially between prey and predator, are frowned upon but do exist.ALL Demi-humans risk succumbing to their animal instincts, sometimes colloquially referred to as 'the curse of the blood'. This manifests in various forms depending on the genetic make-up of an individual. This are often referred to as 'Going Svage' or 'Entering Panic'. While both are different sides of the same coin ONLY Predator's are who are provided with medication to ensure they do not succumb to this, especially those whose jobs are dedicated to more dangerous aspects such as the military.
Predators
Predators are viewed as superior. Divided between classes, those classified as Apex Predators stand atop the chain of society. While in civilian life the jobs and roles between both Prey and Predator often mix, positions such as military and law enforcement tend to put preference on Predators.Demi-humans of domesticated species, such as dogs and cats (Domestic Predators), face similar prejudice as what prey considered 'vermin' do, and are often deemed "not real" predators.GOING SAVAGE
It is a primal instinct that triggers the need to hunt and kill, turning the individual wild and berserk— 'savage.' This is kept under check via medication, used exclusively by Predators, especially those who are serving in the military. This is considered a disease. Some never experience this, while others experience it at least one time during their life. For other's it becomes chronic or seasonal. For many, going Savage means never returning back to normal. Deaths and murders due to Predator's losing themselves to their instincts tends to flood media at times. It is a stigma they carry, and one whose families of those that have gone Savage in society tend to carry. Individuals with high probability of going savage are sometimes simply 'taken care off', put down like animals.Savage is describe by many as feeling like a high. Many don't remember what occurred during this state.
Prey
PREY are considered weak and often relegated to non-combat roles like medics or nurses when it comes to the military. Standards for allowing Prey to join any military or law enforcement ranks tends to be highly challenging and often times is described as 'biased' and 'unfair'.Prey are rarely seen in active combat due to perceptions of fragility and liability. When injured, they can trigger the hunting instincts of predators, leading to aggression and bloodlust.Prey, particularly those classified as 'pests' like rodents, face additional stigma even among their prey-peers.PANIC / 'SAVAGE'
Unlike their Predator counterpart, this is something much more similar to a Fight or Flight state that manifests on Prey. Going Savage does not just mean the basic instinct of killing and hunting, but merely, the succumbing to primal instincts of a demi-human's animal genetic make-up. For Prey it means fighting for survival, and while this can lead to them becoming dangerous and berserk, it can escalate rapidly into a Panic. As with some prey animals in the wild, like rabbits and deer, extreme stress can lead to cardiac arrest. This is described as feeling extreme anxiety. They do not receive medication alike their Predator counterparts, and unless it is something that is re-current and therefore eventually life-threatening, most Prey go about their daily life normally. Medication for anxiety is often prescribed for those that suffer of this in a more chronic, seasonal or who are more susceptible to it.Prey too is, however, susceptible to going 'savage'. While rare, a few cases have been recorded throughout history of savage Prey murdering Predators - even Apex Predators - whose strength surpassed theirs. This is considered a myth in modern times and news about it are viewed as a joke.
Hybrids
Hybrids of different species exist but are rare. Hybrids are usually the result of similar based genetics in animals, such as canine related demi's with another canine (A wolf and Dog, or even by a long shot a fox). The further away the genetic make-up of the parents the higher the risk of stillborn or survival of the offspring due to incompatibility (eg. Wolf and rabbit). While this is still possible, with various cases recorded, this are highly rare and often seen as an odd digit, an improbability. Most often they might not just face stigma due to coming from mixed-species relationships, but might also struggle with health issues.
